Ağaçlar yoğun bir mevsim geçirdiklerinde bu onlarda yeni bir kabuk oluştururmuş. Hani ağacı kestiğinizde gördüğünüz halkalar var ya. Onlardan yani. Oradaki her halkaya bakarak, bereketli bir mevsim mi yaşadı, yoksa berbat bir kış mı geçirdi hemen anlaşılırmış. Ağaçların halkalarına bakarak ağacın yaşını ve yaşamını okuma biliminin adı Dentokronoloji. Eğer bir ağaç olsaydım, büyük ihtimal şimdiye kadar ağaç bilimciler, kesilmem ve hayatımın geri kalanına bir odun olarak devam etmemi söylerlerdi. Çünkü normal şartlarda kurumuş olurdum. Nedir bu hayatta kalma tutkusu? Herkes için eminim farklı bir anlamı var. Benim için anlamı şu; hayatta kaldığınız zaman, sizi hayata küstüren her ne ise üstesinden gelmişinizdir, bunun getirdiği başarı duygusu, zafer ve mevcut durumda hayatın yaşanabilir, hatta hala zevk alınabilir olduğunu görmek. İnsana yaşama sevinci veren şey, "hayatta kalabilmiş olma"nın ta kendisi! Çocukların kendilerini korumaları için hazırladığım bir çalışmada korkunun tanımı şuydu: -Korku ne yapacağını bilememektir. O soğuk kış, o vahşi hayvan, kuraklık ile baş edip hayatta kaldıysanız, artık korkmazsınız. Ve yaşam cesaretle atıldığınızda gerçekten size kendini gösterir... Bu kış bende sıkı bir halka bıraktı. Hatta diyebilirim ki son bir kaç mevsim. Hala korkularım var, ama galiba beslenmek için azim ile uzattığım köklerim siz bu satırları okurken oralarda biryerlere uzanmış olabilir.
